Simple Preparations and Characterizations of Activated-Carbon- Clothes from Palm-Kernel-Shell for Ammonia Vapor Adsorption and Skim-Latex-Odor Removal

This study explored a simple preparation and characterization of the activated carbon cloth from palm kernel shell compared it to commercial-water-filter-carbon specification. A new pyrolysis chamber that is easily scaled up using itself as heat source was tested. Two different steps were compared: alkaline activation process performed before or after carbonation in palm-kernel-shell preparation. The carbons prepared with current method fulfilled standard quality charcoal except for ash content. sequencing step affected adsorption capacity. Instead reverse sequence, soaking shells NaOH lead higher particle stability on surface by both adhesive concentration its size. ammonia capacity (ACC) between 1–4 mg per g stuck carbon. type ACC absorbed lessened skim latex odor vapor, nearly odorless depending area volume vapor.
